How to write a job post that attracts trusted candidates
4 min read · Updated September 5, 2026
Vague posts attract volume, clear posts attract fit. If you would rather read ten strong applications than eighty weak ones, write for clarity.
Use a plain job title
Write the title the way a candidate would search for it. Descriptive internal titles hide your listing from the people you want.
State pay and job type
A posted range increases quality applications and shortens the process. Say whether the role is full time, part time, contract, or seasonal, and whether it is on site.
Describe the actual week
List four to six duties that describe how the person will spend their time, then name the two or three requirements that genuinely disqualify. Everything else is preference, not a requirement.
Close with the next step
Tell candidates exactly how to apply and when they will hear back. Then keep that promise, because your reputation in a community platform travels.
Key takeaways
- Title the role the way candidates search
- Post the pay range and the job type
- Describe the real week, and separate requirements from preferences
- Promise a response time and keep it
